Averatec C3500 Tablet PC

Finally got hold of one of an Averatec C3500 Tablet PC. All is well so far. Just the standard updates and favourite programs installed. Tomorrow I can start messing with the handwriting recognition! Now gotta get some sleep so I can be fully aware of who I can show it off to tomorrow, with lines like, "MM? What? Oh this old thing? NAAAH I just needed a laptop is all, it's nothing, no really!"

So far it has been wonderful, in the short time I have been able to mess with it. The only strange occurance was an Admin login that kept popping up at start up informing me I had the wrong password. Sometimes this would cause the normal login to not appear and the thing would just sit there. I fixed it for now, by just switching off the friendly WinXP welcome screen.

It comes with a full version of Microsoft One Note which strangely enough I could not update because I needed a file which I do not appear to have buried deep within the preinstalled version. No matter, it is all there, and time to see if it will understand my weird and wibbly scrawlings.

Click here for the funkified version of Microsoft One Note.

Perhaps I should keep an eye on these forums for the time being. So far so good though.

I wonder if it will still respect me in the morning?

Free Antivirus Protection

Now in my recent explorations into weird little buttons included in Windows XP Service Pack 2, I came across a link in the virus warnings, that the new Security Center gave me.

The Microsoft Windows Security Center Antivirus Partners page, gives you free trials, ranging from 90 days, right up to a full year!

So there is NO EXCUSE to not having virus protection for your computer. Please get it, then you too can help save the planet from imploding from too much bandwidth being used by a whole automated internet of viruses keeping in touch with eachother.

Perhaps they will become the next form of life. If they keep conversing long enough (and just when the message finally gets through that viruses are not natural occurancies but made by idiots with too much time and very small penises) they will indeed become a life-form all their own! So to stop this happening (after all, who wants to HAVE to be chummy with something that snoops around your computer drinking all the milk straight from the container) get protected! NOW!

Don't be an idiot, get protected. Of course I'm not talking to you, oh no, you have protection of course. It's those OTHER people, yes.

Windows XP Service Pack 2

The Windows XP Service Pack 2 can be found here. Go on, you know you wanna. I am getting it now, and will just dive right in! Just look at all the list of fixes. The main area is the security, which while cutting a lot of people off to begin with, sort of puts things where I would rather see them. Instead of shipping everything turned off (no security) and people just going, "Hey it works!" and then never touching a single thing again. They will use it, find it DOESN'T work and then have to figure out just why it is. And from a lot of the people I have spoken to, this will be the first time any of them where even aware of any type of risk (security or otherwise) to their computers, or person! So it's a good thing right?

UPDATE
Just installed and so far all is well, I will get back if things are less than satisfactory.

UPDATE
Apart from Windows keeping on asking about letting programs access the network occasionally, the start up security center, and some little wireless network icons appearing in networking folders, all is calm and working great. Only thing weird so far is that when the computer boots up, it announces on the start up screen that it is Windows XP, neither Home or Pro.

It's a Service Pack and it's number 2, so I think it could be Service Pack 2?

Otakon 2004

I am playing guardian to a group of kids through the Otakon 2004. I used to be into Anime, and I wish I was right now. I hac a blast taking a ton of photos of all the costumed people. More news when I finish the final day...

This is me at the Otakon, incredibly forgettable person taking lots of pictures
